Freshwater Society is taking the Water Stewards program statewide in 2026 and we are so excited to welcome a new cohort of volunteers to our area!

To become certified, Water Stewards participate in 40hrs of online classes to learn about water science, policy, and public engagement. After certification, stewards remain engaged in their local communities and volunteer in a wide variety of ways:

- helping to lead habitat restoration events

- building and tending to gravel bed tree nurseries

- assisting with youth and adult education programs

- sharing info and resources with their schools, neighborhoods, and communities of worship

+ SO MUCH MORE!

Many of our Water Steward graduates have gone on to join citizen advisory committees or watershed and SWCD boards, or even get jobs in the field.

We will be planning in-person events for local Water Stewards, throughout 2026, and have funding available from St. Croix Valley Foundation to support capstone projects and other steward activities.
