Join Isanti SWCD and the East Metro Water Education Program for a fun and informative walk through the prairie at Irving & John Anderson County Park.
Located about one-hour north of the Twin Cities, Irving & John Anderson County Park lies in a richly diverse environment that supports white tailed deer, turkeys, pheasants, Blanding’s turtles, beaver, red-headed woodpeckers, sandhill cranes, and throngs of migratory birds. Isanti SWCD seeded the original 174 acres of farmland to prairie in 2007 and has provided assistance for other habitat restoration efforts.
Two tall metal sandhill cranes greet you as you enter the park and there is also a children’s natural play area near the prairie, which is a big crowd favorite with young families.
During this program, we’ll take a walk through the prairie to learn about and identify different types of native plants growing in the park. You can also use these same plants for a pollinator garden or prairie restoration at your own home!
